January 2013 Happenings

I hope that the holiday season is treating you all well.  As we get ready to say goodbye to 2012 and ring in a new year, please remember that the Otranto Road Regional Library Children's Department has plenty of programs to help kick off 2013. 

 


STORYTIMES

Wee Reads
Monday, January 7, 14 at 10:30 a.m.
For 0-23 months with adult

Age appropriate stories, flannel board and finger plays.
(Closed for MLK Day January 21st)

Babygarten
Monday, January  28  at 10:30 a.m.
for 0-18 months with adult

Babygarten is a class designed for infants and their caregivers where they will share nursery rhymes, songs and books in a language rich environment.

Time for Twos
Tuesday, January  8, 15, 22, 29 at 10:30 a.m.
for 2 year olds with adult  

Child must be 2 by start date


Age appropriate stories, flannelboard and finger plays.
(Closed New Year’s Day, January 1st)

Preschool Storytime
Wednesday, January 2, 9, 16, 23, 30 at 10:30 a.m.
Child must be 3 by start date

Age appropriate stories, flannelboard and finger plays.

SCHOOL AGE SPECIALS

Wednesday – Saturday, January 16-19 in Children’s Department
PAL: Martin Luther King, Jr. Scavenger Hunt
Are you an expert on all things related to Martin Luther King, Jr. and his legacy?  Would you want to learn more about him and win a prize.  Test your knowledge with our Martin Luther King, Jr. Scavenger Hunt. 

Tuesday, January 22 in Children’s Department
PAL: Martin Luther King, Jr. Craft Activity
Share in the dream and make a handprint unity wreath.

SATURDAY PROGRAMS

Saturday, January 5 at 11 a.m.
PLAY:  STAR Therapy Dogs
STAR therapy dogs and their handlers would love to hear a snuggle up story to warm their hearts from the winter chill. 

Saturday, January 12 at 11 a.m.
PLAY: Crafty Saturdays 
 Today is make and take craft day to inspire young minds to be creative!

Saturday, January 19 at 11 a.m. 
PLAY: Lowe’s Make and Take Clinic
Calling all kids! Make a wooden project and get cool items to take home!
Saturday, January 26 at 11 a.m.
PLAY: Boogie with Books!
Put on your dance shoes with dance instructor, Jamie Bierdz, as she brings books to life with creative dance moves.

Wednesday, January 30 at 4 p.m.
PLAY: MOVIE: Madagascar 3: Europe’s Most Wanted
Your favorite characters are back in their most hilarious adventure yet! Alex, Marty, Melman and Gloria are on the run through Europe in this wildly-entertaining and outrageous comedy.
Rated: PG; 93 minutes

Yuletide Decorating Fun

December 2012 Happenings at Otranto

The holiday season is nearly here!  Come by the Otranto Regional Library this December to celebrate with several cool programs guranteed to fill you with holiday cheer!  NOTE:  The library will be closed December 24, 25, and 26th in observance of the holiday season. 

Storytimes
Wee Reads (Mondays; December 3, 10, and 17 at 10:30 am)

Let's Learn About Kwanzaa (Wednesday, December 19 at 4:00 pm)
Kwanzaa is a seven day celebration of family, community, and culture.  Join us as we explore the Kwanzaa symbols and cultural traditions.

Saturday PLAY Programs
(all Saturday programs begin at 11:00 am)

December 1: STAR Therapy Dogs 
Read a holiday story to a certified therapy dog.  STAR therapy dogs and their handlers love a good story.

December 8:  Movie:  Arthur Christmas
  How does Santa deliver all of those presents in one night?  Arthur must complete an urgent mission before the dawn of Christmas morning.

December 15:  Yuletide Decorating Fun
  Calling all kids!  Drop in and listen to holiday music while decorating a sugar cone treat.

December 22:  Gingerbread Friends
  Hear the story of the Gingerbread Boy and create a garland of gingerbread people for a holiday home decoration.

December 29:  Let's Learn About Kwanzaa
