September 2013 Happenings at the Otranto Children's Department

Summer is almost over, but that doesn't mean we can't still have fun.  We have a lot of fun and exciting programs to offer for the month of September at Otranto!    Don't forget Babygarten and Preschool Zone will return in September.

Wee Reads
Mondays, September 16, 23 at 10:30 a.m.
For 0-23 months with adult
Age appropriate stories, flannel board and finger plays.

Babygarten
Mondays, September 30 at 10:30 a.m.
For 0-18 months with adult
Babygarten is a class designed for infants and their caregivers where they will share nursery rhymes, songs and books in a language rich environment.

Time for Twos
Tuesdays, September 17, 24 at 10:30 a.m.
for 2 year olds with adult  
Child must be 2 by start date
Age appropriate stories, flannelboard and finger plays.

Preschool Storytime
Wednesdays, September 18, 25 at 10:30 a.m.
Child must be 3 by start date
Age appropriate stories, flannelboard and finger plays.

Preschool Zone Storytime
Mondays, September 16, 23, 30 at 11:30 a.m.
Child must be 3 by start date
Join us for an early literacy program based on Good Start, Grow Smart: South Carolina Early Learning Standards.

Hooray for Grandparents Day!  
Kids and their grandparents are welcome for a special, including songs and a take home craft.

Library Card Sign Up Month Skit   
An informative skit to remind parents and children that a library card is the most important school supply of all.

Fun with Dora and Diego!  
Hola! Come have adventures with Dora the Explorer and her cousin Diego as we celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month.

STEM Program: Sweet Science: Ice Cream in a Bag
Curious about how ice cream is made? Join us as we explore the chemistry behind ice cream and make a delicious homemade version.

Celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month with Crafts  
Join us as we make Hispanic crafts that kids can take home and share.

MOVIE: Brave

It’s August!  Fall is just around the corner and summer Reading is winding down.  If you have not already turned in your Dig into Reading logs and Dig into Reading for Babies forms, you have until Saturday, August 10th (the last day of summer reading) to do so.    

Even though this year's summer reading program is almost over, don’t fret!  The Otranto Road Regional Library Children’s Department has several cool programs to educate and entertain during the dog days of summer.

“Bubble, Bubble, Toil & Trouble: Rediscover Harry Potter”
