It’s August!  Fall is just around the corner and summer Reading is winding down.  If you have not already turned in your Dig into Reading logs and Dig into Reading for Babies forms, you have until Saturday, August 10th (the last day of summer reading) to do so.    

Even though this year's summer reading program is almost over, don’t fret!  The Otranto Road Regional Library Children’s Department has several cool programs to educate and entertain during the dog days of summer.

July Happenings at Otranto!


Summer Reading is well underway.  If you have not signed your child up for the Summer Reading program at CCPL, you still have time.  Summer Reading ends August 10th.   Below are our programs and activities for July 2013. 

WEEKLY STORYTIMES
WEE READS
(under 24 months with adult)
These storytimes are designed to introduce babies to books and language with finger plays, rhymes, music and toy sharing to enhance pre-reading skills
Mondays, July 1, 8, and 15 at 10:30 a.m.
BABYGARTEN
(under 18 months with adult)*
A one-hour class that creates a language rich environment through promoting pre-literacy skills through singing, rhyming, unison reading and finger plays. Each Babygarten session runs for six weeks.

TIME FOR TWOS
(ages 24 – 36 months with adult)
Toddlers enjoy picture books, flannel board fun, sing-a-longs, poetry and simple activities to encourage language skills.

June Happenings at Otranto!


Summer Reading begins Saturday, June 1st!  This year’s theme is “Dig into Reading” and we are very excited to offer programming and events to keep your children interested in reading over the summer months.  If you have not done so already, please pick up a copy of the Summer Reading Guide (available at any CCPL location).  It is also available online at: http://www.ccpl.org.   Also, check out the Summer Reading page on this blog for up to date information about "Dig into Reading."

There you can find the rules for both the “Dig into Reading” and “Dig into Reading for Babies” programs as well a recommended reading list, downloadable summer reading logs, and descriptions of all the summer reading prizes.

This lively program celebrates the similarities and differences of people and cultures across the globe through songs and stories and teaches us how to be good world citizens.
